In the afternoon 2017-11-21 we held a WebEx workshop in simulation technology with LiU, Bosch, Saab Aeronautics, and Volvo group. Peter Fritzson first gave an overview of 20 year’s development of the Modelica language and the open-source environment OpenModelica. In short, Modelica is an equation based language for creating acausal models of multiple domains. Besides the text-based input there is a large library of visual components to speed up the development. OpenModelica also provides simulation of both continuous and discrete time modeling. The second presentation was given by Lena Buffoni who described a way to model both the system and requirements and check if requirements are violated during simulated scenarios. The third presentation by Bernhard Thiele was introducing a library in Modelica for interfacing hardware drivers to allow hardware, and also human users, to be included in the simulation loop. Thereafter the companies held interesting presentation about current practice and potential areas for common research. On the list we decided to follow up on variant management for simulation.
