Understanding how to efficiently build and deploy software, whether through continuous integration, adoption of AI techniques or service-based business models, requires critical thinking and reflection on ideas and outcomes. Similarly, critical thinking is essential in understanding what to build and why. Critical requirements engineering is a term to describe a framework for critically analyzing the reasoning behind and decisions taken in designing new systems. This talk will present an outline of the Critical Systems Heuristics which form the basis for thinking about requirements, and how to employ Critical Requirements Engineering as part of a design process.
